S. ROCCO
S.Rocco was born in a noble French family. After his parents’ death, he sold his belongings and left for Italy where he nursed lepers. On his journey back to France, whilst in a desert place, he was taken ill but survived thanks to the food brought to him by a dog. Back home he was accused of being a spy and arrested. He died in prison stricken by the plague. The Mistero depicts the apparition of S.Rocco to a leper. The saint shows him his wound while an angel supports his pilgrim’s staff and another one holds a table with the inscription “Rochum invoca et sanus eris” (If you invoke S.Rocco you will be healed).
