He was born on the night of the 3rd December, at ten o’clock. His mother Lucia di Soccio was legitimately married to Andrea di Zinno an agricultural security guard and in accordance with the license of the Archpriest of the Trinity, don Carlo Fasulo, he was baptized, in the parish of St. Bartolomeo Apostle, by the canonical don Francesco Vaglia, the very same day, before the infant was 24 hours old. He was given two names, Paolo, maybe because his parents’ house was near St. Paul, and Saverio because on 3rd December it is St. Francesco Xaverio, the apostle of the Indies. There was no godfather and the function was carried out by the midwife Teresa Piciocco. His very poor parents were relieved from educating their son thanks to the rich land-owner Filippo Mazzarotta that sent the ingeniously promising boy, to Naples to study art. Di Zinno was particularly talented for statuary and while he was on vacation in Campobasso he placed a praised statue of the Immaculate Conception in the church where he was baptized. Many are the statues that are still kept in the churches of the chief town: the statue of St. Cosma and Damiano in the church of the Holy Trinity; the statues of the Immaculate Conception and of the Crowned Virgin in the church of St. Mary at the Cross ; the statue of the Assumption in the small church of St Mary de Foras; the statue of Our Lady of Mount Carmel in the church of St. George; the statue of St. Francesco in the church of St. Anthony the Abbot; the statues of St. Raphael with Tobias and of the Immaculate in the church of Libera; the statue of the Immaculate in the church of St. Giovanni from Gelsi; the statue of St. Ann in the church of St. Francesco; and many other works of art displaced in other churches beyond the boundaries of Molise.Di Zinno, improving his art, managed to raise a reasonable fortune and, therefore, he decided to return definitely to Campobasso where he was commissioned to construct particular scenes that were to be brought on shoulder with people on top of them. The date of construction of the Mysteries is uncertain, written sources refer to the year around 1740. He married Candida Scaroina who belonged to a good middle-class family and they had two children Maria Rosa and Giuseppe talented just as much as his father. Di zinno died on 29th April 1781, his death certificate says: “Today Paolo Saverio di Zinno, husband of Candida Scaroina, at the age of 62, supplied from me with all the sacraments, and assisted to a good death by the canonical don Domenico Majo, has returned his soul to God and his body has been registered in the Holy Trinity, and thereafter buried. Archpriest Vasile”. All traces of the place of sepulchre have been lost.
